1. We pack WAY too much shit. Going to our parents for Easter, we took a suitcase full of our clothes, a separate bag full of necessities (toothbrushes, lotion, hair dryer, etc.), a bag for Izzers' stuff, Izzers' kennel, a small bag full of books, to-do lists, ultrasound pictures, etc., and a cooler. In case you are wondering, our parents live an hour away from us, and fifteen minutes from the other. That weekend we both decided we were not going to be hauling an infant and infant's things on top of it all, so we've made a goal to downsize in the next few months.
2. 40 weeks is a really short time. Granted, the first 2-3 really don't count. We currently have 17 weeks until Baby Hunt is due, and pretty much have each week mapped out on my giant 'Baby Hunt Prep' To-Do list. Oh, yes, it exists.
3. If you have been reading between the lines, you may have heard mention of Isabelle once - or twice - or fifty times. She is a big part of our lives, and we think others have taken notice. Take, for example, the last three baby items we have received:
A paw-printed baby blanket, paw-printed booties, and an adorable puppy themed children's book. These were from three different people! I guess it's pretty obvious that we love our Izzers. 4. As evidenced by the above photo, I greatly need to update my picture-taking abilities in the next few weeks. This may entail a new camera and some photo editing software. I am pretty sure Baby Hunt will be the most handsome little boy you have all ever seen (I may be a little biased), and bad pictures just won't do. Again, I'm vain like that. If anyone has any camera or software recommendations for a beginner, please let me know!
Yes, you will need to refine your packing skills in a hurry, it is one of the BIGGEST pains of adding a baby to your family.
ReplyDeleteThe first thing Macie and I noticed about traveling with topher is we needed to take a crap-load more everywhere we went. Even if we were just going to my parents for a few hours, you suddenly need milk (or formula), diaper bag with at least a half dozen diapers, a plastic tote of wipes, at least one emergency outfit to change into, possibly baby soap and lotion if he needs a bath while we're there, his carseat, blankets, something for him to chew on, maybe even a stroller if we are planning to take him anywhere. The only reason I didn't say pack-and-play is cause we have a second crib at my parents for when he takes a nap.
Now that topher's a little older, you can scale back that first list a little, but now you have to consider taking a baby-gate just about anywhere you go, some puffs for him to nibble on, toys and books to read, etc, etc. We bought a new car within 2 months after having topher simply because we needed more room for all the baby-crap and our dog (impossible to take both of them with our old car).
